Family…
Two of my daughters spent the summer with my sister in Washington state. One of them turned 18 while she was there. She decided to stay, because she was already looking for a way to not be living with her mom. That was fine.
However it is not fine that my sister manipulated my middle child and tried to get her moved in permanently. Or that she tried to turn my child against me. I drove from Montana to Bremerton, WA to pick up my child (9 and a 1/2 hour drive to get there). Had no clue that anything was wrong. Well, no, I didn’t read things right. I did have the fact that she wasn’t talking to us the way she usually does. But honestly, I thought she was having fun and was content to talk to us when she got back.
So I get there and my daughter asks to talk to me alone. We sit on a bench and she starts crying, telling me all this b.s. about what I should be doing better, how I should be acting as a mother, how much better it is at her aunt’s, how I am a gypsy and her aunt isn’t (her aunt is married to a navy guy and they are being re-stationed in December). I managed to hold my tongue and not spaz out on my daughter. As soon as she was done spewing all this crap, her tears dried up and she was fine. Everyone there was in on this.
My sister can go to hell. I can’t really say anything to her because my 18 year old is staying there. It is really driving me up a wall. I want to scream at my sister. Punch her in the face. Repeatedly. Till I cannot lift my arm.
Moral of the story?
Blood ties do not equal family.
